Waste Management Assists the Orlando Magic With Their Green Initiative

Feb 5th, 2009 | By admin | Category: What's News

From the long overdue news desk: The Orlando Magic and Waste Management have partnered to bring the “Green Sweep” to the Amway Arena. In an effort to increase recycling efforts and promote sustainability, this two year partnership will not only increase the designated recycling areas at Orlando Magic games, but also for other events throughout Orlando.

The “Green Sweep” occurs during Magic games; spectators aren’t required to leave their seats to recycle, but a squad of dogooders comes by to collect all recyclable materials.

This does make sense as basketball operates at quicker pace than most other sports and fans don’t want to miss any of the action. However, it seems like this could of been done awhile back. Sporting events deliver a captive audience, who are creating a ton of waste when they buy food and drinks at the venue.

This is a great way to springboard into the next stadium which is being billed as the first LEED-certified basketball arena. As we await the completion of the Orlando Events Center, the “Green Sweep” is a great way to keep sustainability top of mind for Orlando’s citizens.

The Orlando Events Center is going to be magical. Let's hear it for puns!
